Construction Documents (Woohoo!)

Did you think we left you guys? Nope, we're here we've just been SUPER busy and enjoying a teeny tiny bit of this hot, hot summer (ice cream, anyone?).  Since the last time we chatted we have moved into a new office, don't worry there will be a whole blog post devoted to that, embarked on new and exciting project adventures, and wrapped up the design phase for a very exciting residential project, hence, the reason for this post!  The project we are so thrilled about is the one we have been chronicling from the site visit through Schematic Design, Design Development, and on to the phase we have just wrapped up, Construction Documents.  While the title may not sound  all that thrilling, the Construction Documents phase of design is truly the nuts and bolts of any design project.  You see, most people think that we sit around all day, drawing old school blueprints and playing with our compasses.  While this does sound like a blast, the truth is there is so, so much more than that.  Any design worth its weight is a labor of love that isn't just about the drawings produced, however, that is a HUGE part of it, it's also about the research, details, and execution.  When we say Construction Documents this is a multi-tiered process that involves detailed drawings, site plans, schedules, electrical, plumbing, specifications (all 300 pages of them), you get the gist.  So, you may be asking yourself, "What exactly is fun about this?"  Well, the most rewarding part of this phase is seeing all of the hard work realized, it begins to look like a real building, and it has evolved from nothing into this beautiful well-crafted idea that is at least somewhat tangible.

The project that we have been walking you guys through is a custom residential project here in Ocean Springs.  When we got the call for this project we were floored and the fact that we actually had the chance to design a building like this so early in our careers was an unreal experience that taught us the power of patience and persistence and showed us that we were capable of actually doing this whole small business thing, mainly because we were doing it.  All along the way we have been doing sketches, physical and digital models, and renderings so that we could discover every little detail and nuance the heck out of them.  Below you will get a look at the building before it starts to come out of the ground and we can't wait to show you some construction shots come fall.  Stay tuned, stay cool (remember, eat your ice cream), and come see us.  You know you want to.
